This Tuesday, 7:30pm. An invitation to Paris!

Sydney’s Philosophy in the Café - Philo Agora

Every Second Tuesday at 7:30 pm, Fair Trade Coffee Company, 33 Glebe Point Road, Glebe.

Lindsay Mell's talk on "Toward a Social Ethos" has had to be cancelled due to illness. We pass on our best wishes to Lindsay and trust he can shake the flu soon.

As an alternative to the prepared talk, we are going to use a method frequently adapted in Paris Philo Cafes. We invite the audience to nominate a topic. It can be an aphorism "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" , a question, "What should we teach our children ?", etc. but if possible short and not too general. Following the round robin of suggestions, the floor votes on the topic. The initial nominee starts the topic. Contributions to the topic are garnered from the floor. Following this initial dialogue, the microphone is passed around the audience for comment.

If you have a topic you woud like to be discussed, please try to wtite it down, to formulate it well before coming. It will have better chances to be chosen. The writer, Sam, will nominate, "Is philosophy the science that measures truth?"

In addition, this coming fortnight there will be a slight change to our charging for the talk. Instead of the usual $6 charge, we will only be charging $3 for the night to pay for the rental of the cafe. Coffee and tea will not be included, but at some $3 each, it works out much the same. Further, we have the bottom half of the cafe to ourselves from 7pm with last orders for the kitchen at 7:30.

We look forward to seeing you this Tuesday night.

Regards,

Hazel, Peter & Sam.
