Newsletter Hello Philoagoran,
Next fortnight, Tuesday, June 24, Joffre Balce will present his talk on "The Art of War: Sun Tzu vs. Niccolo Machiavelli." As always, we meet at the Fair Trade Coffee Company at 33 Glebe Point Road at 7:30. Come early from 6 and share a meal with the regulars. More details on the venue and our format can be found at www.philoagora.com.
War is fought for a purpose, applies universal principles and has a respect for wisdom, even if it applies violence on the wisdom that dissents. Violence has a philosophy: many politicians, economists, diplomats, businessmen and soldiers simply call that philosophy, war. To defend ourselves from war and violence, one must understand its essence and nature better.
Joffre is an economist who has worked in the Philippines, Malaysia, China, USA and Germany. His interest in philosophy was developed through a Bachelor of Arts at the Ateneo de Manila University. He has lectured on the history of economic thought at the University of Asia & the Pacific, where he obtained a Master of Science in Industrial Economics. He is currently working on his PhD.
Cheers,
Sam Alexander
