Welcome to Philo Agora 2014.
Second Wednesday of the month, 7 for 7:30 at Abla Pastry, 425 New Canterbury Rd, Dulwich Hill.
This Wednesday, 11 June, 2014. In the Public Interest. A new book by Peter Bowden
Peter is a long-time member of Philo Agora, and currently teaches and writes on ethics issues.
Peter will outline the main objectives behind his new book: “In the Public Interest, Protecting Whistleblowers and those who speak out “
Considerable evidence confirms that blowing the whistle on wrongdoing can make the workplace more ethical. His talk will be illustrated by a dozen examples of those who have stopped major wrongdoing - from the whistleblower who caused the resignation of a US President to the French army officer who exposed the truth in the Dreyfus Affair. But whistleblowers are crucified. For these reasons, governments worldwide have increasingly brought in whistleblower protection legislation. The legislation is not yet perfect. In the English speaking world, Australia’s legislation is the most backward. To start a campaign for improvement is one purpose behind the book
Copies of the book will be available at a massive discount : $20 a copy . Colleagues have also donated two free copies for impoverished students .
The cover charge is $8 for the talk which includes your first cup of coffee or tea. Come early from 6:30pm and join the regulars in a pastry and coffee before the presentation.
We look forward to your attendance and participation.
