Mon, Oct 10, Alexander - Another word for Athiest?

Philo Agora 2015

7 for 7:30 at 10 Shepherd St, Chippendale NSW 2008. (0457 749 310) Twice a month!

Philo Agora will now be meeting at the Humanist House, 10 Shepherd St, Chippendale NSW 2008. We will meet on the second and fourth Monday of every month. The second Monday will be our normal presentation from a guest speaker whilst the fourth Monday will be a less structured open forum for those just looking to hang out. Don't let the Humanist word worry you, we are still ratbag philosphers. However, this month we have switched the Mondays.

Monday, 10th October. Sam Alexander, another word for Athiest?

Another word for atheist? Here's a list of synonyms for this word.

nonbeliever, disbeliever, unbeliever, skeptic, doubter, agnostic, freethinker, humanist, pagan, heathen, infidel, irreligionist, free thinker

Most words include or imply an initial belief or regognition of God. This is in itself a parodox as it suggests more of a nihilist attitude rather than one starting from nothing.

Sam Alexander is a founder and convenor of Philo Agora. Sam is a technologist: he started work as a PMG technician in the 60's, a large systems computer engineer in the 70's, a money market systems consultant in the 80's, an equipment manufacturer in the 90's, a retailer in the 00's, and self-opinionated in the teens. He also holds degrees in divinity and theology

Philo Agora's format is a talk for 20 minutes starting at 7:15 for 7:30. The presenter then answers any questions of clarification from the floor. We then take a break of 10 minutes for more coffee and to mull over the talk and discuss it within small groups. The microphone is then passed around the audience for comment, opinion, and often counter argument to a maximum of 3 minutes. The presenter is then given a 5 minute right of reply. We usually finish up at 9pm. The cover charge is now $5 for the talk. There are tea and coffee facilities available inhouse, and we are diagonally opposite the Broadway Shopping Centre where a quick meal could be had before attendance. There is plenty of street parking in Shepherd Street and surrounds.

We look forward to seeing you on the night.
