Mon 22 Feb - Existentialism, Sartre and Bad Faith

Philo Agora 2016

7 for 7:30 at 10 Shepherd St, Chippendale NSW 2008. (0457 749 310) Twice a month!

Philo Agora meets at Humanist House, 10 Shepherd St, Chippendale NSW 2008. We will meet on the second and fourth Monday of every month.

The second Monday will be our normal presentation from a guest speaker whilst the fourth Monday will be a less structured open forum for those just looking to hang out. Don't let the Humanist word worry you, we are still ratbag philosphers. However, this month we have switched the Mondays.

Monday, 22nd February, John Smyth on Existentialism, Sartre and Bad Faith.

John Smyth, a Philoagora regular attendee for the last eight years, will be giving his third presentation at Philoagora.

Using short audio clips from two expert philosophers we will be exploring:

What exactly is Existentialism about?
Who is Jean Paul Sartre and what does he have to say?
What does Sartre’s idea of “Bad Faith” mean and what is its relevance?

Philo Agora's format is a talk for 20 minutes starting at 7:15 for 7:30. The presenter then answers any questions of clarification from the floor. We then take a break of 10 minutes for more coffee and to mull over the talk and discuss it within small groups. The microphone is then passed around the audience for comment, opinion, and often counter argument to a maximum of 3 minutes. The presenter is then given a 5 minute right of reply. We usually finish up at 9pm.

The cover charge is now $5 for the talk. There are tea and coffee facilities available inhouse. There is plenty of street parking in Shepherd Street and surrounds.

We look forward to seeing you on the night.
