Philo Agora meets at Humanist House, 10 Shepherd St, Chippendale NSW 2008. We will meet on the second and fourth Monday of every month.

The second Monday will be our normal presentation from a guest speaker whilst the fourth Monday will be a less structured open forum for those just looking to just hang out. Don't let the Humanist word worry you, we are still ratbag philosphers. However, Because of Public Holidays in both March and April,we will only be meeting on the second Monday of the month.

Monday, March 14, Sam Alexander on "The Bastardisation of Cuba through Fidel Castro’s Marxist/Leninist Philosophy"

This talk is on the success, or otherwise of Castro’s revolutionary Cuba. What is of interest is that this subject has a beginning, 1959, a middle, and an end, 2016. All of my contemporaries (comrades) have lived through the revolution, and as such may have a pro or anti American stance on the subject.

Sam Alexander is a technologist, starting as a PMG technician in the 60's, a large systems computer engineer in the 70's, a money market systems consultant in the 80's, an equipment manufacturer in the 90's, a retailer in the noughties, and self-opinionated in the teens. He also holds degrees in divinity and theology, and is a joint convenor of Philo Agora.

Philo Agora's format is a talk for 20 minutes starting at 7:15 for 7:30. The presenter then answers any questions of clarification from the floor. We then take a break of 10 minutes for more coffee and to mull over the talk and discuss it within small groups. The microphone is then passed around the audience for comment, opinion, and often counter argument to a maximum of 3 minutes. The presenter is then given a 5 minute right of reply. We usually finish up at 9pm. The cover charge is now $5 for the talk. There are tea and coffee facilities available inhouse. There is plenty of street parking in Shepherd Street and surrounds.

We look forward to seeing you on the night.
