Sydney’s Philosophy in the Café - Philo Agora.
Every Second Tuesday at 7:30 pm, Fair Trade Coffee Company, 33 Glebe Point Road, Glebe.
Next Tuesday, June 2, Peter Bowden will investigate Evolutionary Psychology. Science or Speculative Philosophy?
In Darwin's bicentennial year, Peter discusses one of the more recent developments arising from Darwin's findings Evolutionary Psychology, the derivation of our behaviours and beliefs from our evolution - with particular reference to religion and other social behaviour. Or whether, as at least one philosopher claims; it is all hogwash.
Peter Bowden is one of the founding members of Philo Agora. He teaches ethics at Sydney University. Come early for Peter's talk as he always packs the cafe to the rafters.
Future talks include:
June 16: James Franklin. Is philosophy of science irrelevant to real science?
June 30: Abhijit Pal: Suicide, Literature and Philosophy: To Be or Not to Be?
July 14: Skye Nettleton: Loving Powerfully: Nietzsche, love, sex, friendship and marriage.
Finally, Thank you Derek for last week's talk and all those who participated with their comments from the floor. The talk is now on our web-site.
Regards,
Cara, Hazel, Sam and Peter.
