Sydney’s Philosophy in the Café - Philo Agora
Every Second Tuesday at 7:30 pm, Fair Trade Coffee Company, 33 Glebe Point Road, Glebe.
Tuesday, June 16, James Franklin asks "Is philosophy of science irrelevant to real science?"
Jim Franklin will discuss philosophy of science, including the seeming anomaly of philosophers who know little science writing on science. He is professor in mathematics at UNSW.
He is currently completing a book on the philosophy of science (What Science Knows: And How It Knows It, Encounter Books, July). The book has science in it as well as philosophy of science.
Jim is involved in the Restraint Project, a study of the virtue of self-restraint funded by the Australian Research Council and spoke last year at Philo Agora on the philosophy of Mathematics – and Infinity.
Coming events include:
June 30: Abhijit Pal: Suicide, Literature and Philosophy: To Be or Not to Be?
July 14: Skye Nettleton: Loving Powerfully: Nietzsche, love, sex, friendship and marriage.
