Newsletter Next Tuesday night, June 10, Alex Livingston will give his talk on: Experience, Explanation, End – Everything.
With reference to ends, experience, and explanation, Alex hopes to convey his objections to dogmatic universal naturalism. He argues that in light of our experience, recollected as explanation, we decide what to do to achieve pleasant ends – and to avoid unpleasant ends. He hopes to convince us that it is perilous to disregard an explanation just because it is "religious" or "traditional" and not reducible to a "scientific" one.
Alex is a long term contributor to Philoagora and says “… Not long after being bored and burnt out, from my IT job, I studied philosophy for a year or so at UNSW. Enormous developments in my thinking began, and I now consider philosophy the mother of all disciplines and realise that no human being avoids having philosophical thoughts and beliefs".
The talk commences at 7:30, however come early from 6ish and enjoy a meal with the regulars including yours truly. Full details of our program, venue and our format are available on our website www.philoagora.com .
