Sydney’s Philosophy in the Café - Philo Agora
Every Second Tuesday at 7:30 pm, Fair Trade Coffee Company, 33 Glebe Point Road, Glebe.
Tuesday, March 2, 6:30 for 7, Gleebooks, 49 Glebe Point Road. Dorothy Rowe, Why We Lie: The Source of Our Disasters,
This is the fourth year that Dorothy Rowe has opened Philo Agora’s annual program
A review by The Guardian tells us that her new book asks why we tell lies and puts the answer down to a mixture of vanity and terror. All pretty toxic, as far as personal relationships are concerned, but Rowe goes further: our failure to tell the truth is behind all manner of ills, from the current economic crisis to global warming. Scary stuff, but Rowe is so wise that you begin to think it might be possible to change.
Philo Agora attendees will be eligible for the discount entrance fee of $7,00. To reserve a seat, telephone Gleebooks 9660 2333 and pay by credit card, mentioning your Philo Agora connection. Or respond to the Philo Agora email announcement sent to those on our email list.
Many of us will then meet up at the the Fair Trade Cafe afterwards for coffee and discussion.
Our normal programme continues then on, every fortnight at the the Fair Trade Cafe at 7:30.
